FULL TIME: It's all over at St James' Park. Tottenham run out comfortable winners in the end having not played particularly well to win. It was all too easy as Newcastle fell apart after Paulinho doubled Spurs' lead early in the second half. Alan Pardew will be concerned at the lack of fighting spirit his side showed but Spurs go marching on!
Newcastle have all but given up here as Tottenham pile on the pressure and Townsend should have made it 5-0 to the visitors. Having been played, in the youngster had a lot of time to pick his spot but Krul made a fantastic save.
Sissoko plays in Cisse down the right hand side but a sloppy piece of play sees the ball go out for a throw in.
GOAL (Chadli): What a goal! Nacer Chadli bends a screamer in to the top corner and tops off a fantastic performance from Tottenham tonight.
SUBSTITUTION: Not a bad curtain call for Adebayor who is taken off having scored two goals tonight. The Spurs forward is replaced by Soldado who will be looking for one himself.
GOAL (Adebayor): Paulinho plays a ball out wide to Townsend who hits a viscous shot which Krul is able to beat away only as far as Adebayor, who hits his shot in to the ground from the edge of the box and it finds the bottom corner. Game over.
Newcastle are getting a lot of joy by putting balls in to the Spurs box. Seems to too little, too late though.
At the other end Hugo Lloris makes a fantastic save from close rage as Debuchy gets on the end of Ben Arfa cross.
Townsend wastes a brilliant opportunity as Tottenham were momentarily three on two running at the Newcastle defence.
SUBSTITUTION: Sammy Ameobi comes off and is being replaced by Sylvain Marveaux as Newcastle search for a way back in to this game.
Townsend has to do his bit of defending as Santon makes a searching run down the left hand side only to see his shot pushed past the post by Lloris.
A long ball up the field by Tim Krul isn't dealt with by Kyle Walker and nearly causes all sorts of problems for Lloris. Eventually the defender is able to get the ball out of danger.
Newcastle look much more of a threat now they have made a change but time is against them in this second half. They will need a goal quickly if they have any hope of a comeback.
Ben Arfa makes an immediate impact by playing in Goufrran down the left hand side. Kyle Walker can only put it behind for a corner.
Bentaleb puts in a high tackle on Debuchy who makes a bit of a meal of it. Not much contact looking at the replays.
Goufrran wins a corner off Walker and even though Williamson wins the initial header, Spurs are still able to clear their lines.
Tottenham have really taken control of this game now and the crowd at St James' Park have gone very quiet.
GOAL (Paulinho): Lovely build up play by Tottenham as Paulinho flicks the ball in to Adebayor on the edge of the area and the Spurs drills a fantastic shot which Krul is able to parry. Again the quickest to react was a Spurs player as Paulinho runs in to tap in another easy goal.
Tottenham having a lot of the ball in the Newcastle half but are unable to craft any sort of dangerous attack.
Newcastle win a free kick in a good area but Adebayor is there again to clear the ball. The Spurs forward has been everywhere tonight.
Hugo Lloris comes storming out of his area to deny Cisse who had looked to latch on to a long ball over the top.
SUBSTITUTION: Alan Pardew makes his first change by bringing off Davide Santon and replacing him with Paul Dummit.
KICK OFF: Newcastle get us under way in the second half and will look to add a bit of quality in the final third to get back in this game. No changes to either team.

HALF TIME: Adebayor's eighth goal of the season is all that separates the two sides at St James' Park in what has been a thoroughly entertaining first 45 minutes.
Goufrran wins a corner for Newcastle in the last few seconds of the half but after a headed clearance from the Spurs defence, a shot from distance is easily saved by Lloris.
Sissoko looks to play Cisse in behind the Spurs defence but Kaboul stands strong again. The defender is having a very good game tonight.
Bentaleb and Paulinho get in each others way on the edge of the Newcastle area in what looked like a promising position for Sherwood's side.
A very nice attack from Newcastle as Sissoko and de Jong play a neat one-two on the edge of the box but the midfielder sees his shot go well over the bar.
Gouffran is played in down the right hand side by Sammy Ameobi put takes too long to deliver his cross and a Spurs defender is able to get the block in.
Spurs taking time out of this game with a series of throw ins. Looking to take the sting out of Newcastle with just under 10 minutes until half time.
de Jong wins another long, diagonal ball to the far post and knocks the ball down to Sammy Ameobi but his shot goes well wide.
Tottenham win a free kick deep in their own half as Capoue gets himself in between the ball and the man. Gives Spurs the opportunity to relieve some pressure here.
Newcastle are getting themselves in to some very good positions and exploiting this high line from Spurs, but as of yet are unable to take advantage.
Lennon cuts in off the left wing and sees his shot go through the legs of Sissoko, beat Krul but hit the post. Huge let off for Newcastle.
Newcastle win a free kick in a good area on the right hand side. Unfortunately for the Magpies it is easily cleared by Adebayor.
Sissoko makes a bursting run down the right hand side and very nearly puts Ameobi through. However Kaboul is in the right place at the right time to make another fantastic block.
Sammy Ameobi plays a great ball over the top to Cisse who beats Lloris who'd rushed out to the edge of the area. The Newcastle forward was unlucky to see his lob shot go just wide.
Walker is played in down the right hand side by Paulinho and plays a ball to the back post but Williamson is able to block Aaron Lennon's shot. Tottenham will be looking to put the game to bed before half time.
Newcastle have seen a lot of the ball since going behind but Spurs always look a threat on the counter.
Sammy Ameobi is one on one with Kaboul and had looked to get round the Spurs defender but recovers well to put in a fantastic block.
GOAL (Adebayor): Strong play down the left hand side by Bentaleb who sees off Sissoko and whips in a lovely ball which is parried by Krul to the feet of Adebayor. Open goal for the Spurs forward who easily taps in from just a few yards out.
Santon loses out to Paulinho on the half way line but after playing a lovely ball to Adebayor, the Spurs forward is crowded out by the Newcastle defence.
Cisse has a massive chance at the other end as de Jong out jumps Walker but the Newcastle forward shoots straight at Lloris. End to end stuff at the minute.
Capoue cuts the ball back after using his strength to see off Santon but Adebayor sees his shot blocked just wide.
Debuchy getting involved again as he releases Sissoko down the right hand side but his cross is too deep.
Brian Newman thinks we have an open game in store tonight. He's going for a 3-2 win for the Toon Army.
Adam Gillis says: "Two decent sides going head to head will give us a bore draw. I'm going for 1-1 with few chances at either end. Goals coming from Sissoko and Capoue."
Todd Dunsdon thinks there will be a slow start to the game but Spurs will be the first to break through and Newcastle heads will drop. Tottenham to win 3-0
Dan Pinder, a big Arsenal fan, can't see anything but a Spurs win unfortunately! 2-0 with Adebayor getting the goals. He's a popular choice tonight.
Alicia Walker says: "Cisse is well overdue a goal! We can beat Spurs as long as we go full out with no light hearted players."
Ryan Hayes is a big Spurs fan. He thinks it's a solid team tonight. Great to see Kaboul in the back line with Vertonghen. Only thing I'd change is Bentaleb for Dembele and bring in Townsend. I'm going for a 3-1 win for Tottenham.
Darren Robinson says: "Spurs are starting to find some sort of form but we need some luck and passion from the Newcastle boys tonight. Sorry to say it'll probably be a 1-0 for Tottenham with few chances either end."
Now would be a good time to mention Emmanuel Adebayor to score first is 5/1 with Sky Bet.
Another Newcastle fan, this time Ben Rainford says: "We're not blessed with pure quality but at least get Ben Arfa on the pitch. Sammy Ameobi, bless him, will not pull rabbits out the hat against that Spurs defence! Come on Cisse this is your moment!"
Cian Hughes says: "Good evening Sam! Really tough game! I'm really exited too see the outcome of this one! Newcastle (over the past few games) haven't been to impressive and Tottenham's away form has been quite good! But I'm predicting a major upset, 2-1 Newcastle!
