Rangers captain Lee Wallace is backing his side to bounce back from Saturday's draw with Morton and says they owe it manager Mark Warburton to improve

Lee Wallace is focusing on a more upbeat 2016 with Rangers as they continue turning things around on and off the park.

The Ibrox captain was one of the few high-profile players who chose to remain with the club after it went into administration almost four years ago.

Having seen the former Scottish champions drop into the fourth tier and so far helped them up to the second, Wallace has had a wide range of experiences, both good and bad.

Now, after a failed attempt at winning promotion back to the Premiership last season, Mark Warburton's men are in a better position to push for a top-flight return this term.

Although their form has been indifferent lately - Rangers came from behind to draw with Morton on Saturday - they remain three points clear of Hibernian at the top of the Championship.

Between that and the fact Dave King has made a positive impression since he spearheaded a change of power at the club in March, Wallace is optimistic for the future.

He said: "There's been a lot of ups and downs in my Rangers career, more so after the initial year when we went into administration.

"It has been turbulent but we are now focusing on the positives and it's nice to see we are sticking to the back pages as opposed the front.

"There is still stuff ongoing which is away from us and out of our control but I'm taking the stance I'm going to take a positive look going forward. I'm going to instil that positive vibe into the players.

"We want to put all these negative times behind us and for the fans, who deserve it most, we want to get back to where we should be playing and give them the success they deserve."

Rangers host Hibs on December 28 and go to Falkirk - who forced a draw at Easter Road to end the Edinburgh side's nine-match winning run - this weekend.

It could prove to be a crucial period of the season but Scotland cap Wallace - speaking as Warburton's squad made a Christmas visit to a children's hospital in Glasgow - has played down its importance.

He added: "That would just be six points for us. We know the expectation levels and the flak we come in for. The only way to beat that is by performing."

Wallace, meanwhile, has expressed his sorrow at learning of the death of his former team-mate Arnold Peralta last week.

The Honduran spent 18 months at Rangers before leaving in January and was shot 18 times while on holiday in his homeland.

Wallace said: "I woke up to texts and news reports about the horrific news. I was fortunate enough to have played with Arnold during his 18 months at the club.

"The fans will recognise that he was one of us for that period. He dedicated himself tremendously. He loved it here. He always trained with a smile on his face.

"We know he didn't quite get there on the football side but he was learning, wanting to do well and had a deep passion for the club.

"He should now be getting ready to celebrate Christmas with his family and his new kid but what has happened is a total shock to all of us.

"Speaking on behalf of Rangers and everyone connected with the club, we are all totally devastated and we send all our thoughts at this dark time to Arnold's family."
