Sevilla president Jose Castro has revealed the club are working on a deal to bring Tottenham defender Federico Fazio back to Spain in the January transfer window.
The Argentina international arrived at White Hart Lane from Sevilla in August 2014 after Spurs met a reported £8m buyout clause in his contract but has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League.
Fazio has been restricted to just one first-team appearance this season with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino having settled on Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld as his first-choice centre-half pairing, while summer signing Kevin Wimmer is also ahead of him in the pecking order.
The 28-year-old was close to joining West Brom in August and even underwent a medical with the Baggies before the move broke down because he could not agree personal terms.
Now Castro says Sevilla are willing to offer Fazio a lifeline, even though the club were deeply unhappy with the circumstances surrounding his departure to Spurs 18 months ago.
"We are working on a number of options and Fazio is one of them," Castro told Radio Sevilla.
"He is an option, but nothing has been completed as of yet.
"It is clear that Fazio did not leave Sevilla in the best of ways and that really upset me, but I have to think about Sevilla's interests.
"I have to swallow my anger, because this club needs Fazio. I do not like swallowing my pride, but I am willing to do something I do not like because it is in Sevilla's best interest."
