Luciano Becchio could sign deal with Rotherham United

Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn has confirmed Luciano Becchio is training with the club with a view to signing a deal.

Becchio spent a month on loan at the Millers last season but his deal was cut short after he suffered a fractured heel - an injury he has only just got over.

The Argentinian, who knows Redfearn from their days at Leeds together, is on a two-week trial at the Millers and the boss is hoping Becchio can prove his fitness enough to earn a deal.

"Luciano is training with us. He is someone I knew from my time at Leeds," he said. "He has been out of the game a little while now, he had a bad injury that he initially did here when he was on loan at Rotherham.

"He is back 100 per cent, he is back fit, he looks like he has lost weight to me, he looks strong, his finishing - without question - is good and he is here for a couple of weeks.

"We have had discussions with his advisers so we know roughly where we are whether we can do something.

"But we need to make sure we go through the process of making sure he is 100 per cent fit and he has had a couple of weeks under his belt. I am hoping, touch wood, that we can do something."

Becchio, who was released by Norwich in the summer before returning to his native Argentina, scored two goals in five appearances for the Millers last season.

One player heading out of New York Stadium is loanee Tony Andreu.

The Frenchman's three-month spell from Norwich is over and he wants to go back to Carrow Road to fight for his place.

Redfearn added: "He has been performing well of late. It's one of those things, he wanted to go back and have a conversation with Alex Neil.

"Alex Neil has told him he is involved in his plans and that is one of the drawbacks of loans.

"Tony goes with our best wishes, he is a good player."

Andreu scored two goals in 11 appearances for the Millers.
