Glenn Loovens has committed his future to Sheffield Wednesday by signing a new two-and-a-half year deal.

The Owls club captain was due to be out of contract at the end of the season, but is now tied to the Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls until the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Loovens joined Wednesday on a free transfer in December 2013 and has been a solid presence in their back-four since, making 77 appearances in all competitions.

The 32-year-old has also represented Cardiff City, Celtic and Real Zaragoza since coming through the ranks at home in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.
