Wolves are in advanced talks with Cardiff and hope to complete the signing of striker Joe Mason.
The West Midlands club are in the hunt for a replacement for Benik Afobe, recently sold to Bournemouth for more than £8m, while Cardiff are reported to want a fee of £3m for Mason.
"Wolves can confirm they are in advanced discussions with Cardiff City after making a significant bid for striker Joe Mason," Wolves said on their official Twitter site.
Mason, 24, was signed by Cardiff for £250,000 from his first club Plymouth in the summer of 2011.
He has scored six goals in 24 appearances this season for the Bluebirds and spent most of the 2013/14 season on loan at Bolton.
