Stoke City have rejected an approach from Marseille to take winger Peter Odemwingie on loan for the remainder of the season.
The French club made their offer late on Sunday night after completing a loan deal for another Premier League winger - Newcastle's Florian Thauvin - over the weekend.
But Odemwingie will not be heading to the Stade Velodrome any time soon according to reporter Alan Irwin, who spoke to Sky Sports News HQ live from Stoke's training ground on Monday afternoon.
He said: "Odemwingie completed a couple of hours of training before being one of the first to leave with a driver. And Stoke did in fact tell us they had a bid from Marseille for the services of Odemwingie but they have turned that bid down, so wherever he is heading it does not seem likely to be the south coast of France."
The 34-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Stoke following the summer arrivals of Xherdan Shaqiri and Ibrahim Afellay and has made just seven appearances this season.
Odemwingie, who has six months left on his contract at the Britannia Stadium with an option of another year, is no stranger to transfer deadline day drama having been involved in the most famous deal that never happened in 2013.
The then-West Brom forward famously drove the 120 miles from Birmingham to London in an attempt to speed up a late move to Queens Park Rangers only for Harry Redknapp to have a late change of heart and admit "wires got crossed".
Stoke and Marseille have also held talks regarding striker Michy Batshuayi moving to the Britannia Stadium, with The Potters submitting a formal offer for the Belgian, according to L'Équipe.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle have also been in touch again with Marseille in recent hours for Batshuayi, but they remain resolute with their non-selling position.
