Crawley have appealed against midfielder Simon Walton's dismissal in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Accrington.

Walton was shown a straight red card for his part in a 23-man melee which was sparked by Accrington striker Shay McCartan's late tackle on Jon Ashton.

McCartan was sent off and Accrington's substitute goalkeeper Jason Mooney was also shown a straight red card by referee Andy Haines for racing on to the pitch to join in the fracas.

"The club can confirm that they have (on Monday) lodged an appeal with the Football Association relating to the sending off of midfielder Simon Walton in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Accrington Stanley on the grounds of wrongful dismissal," read a statement on the club's official website.
