Hull City have completed the signing of Will Keane from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old forward has agreed a three-year deal as the Tigers continued to strengthen their squad on the verge of Transfer Deadline Day.

Keane became their third signing of Tuesday, following the arrival of goalkeeper David Marshall from Cardiff and midfielder Ryan Mason from Tottenham for a club-record fee, and says that Hull boss Mike Phelan was central to the move.

"He [Phelan] played quite a big part, I spoke to him a couple of times before signing. Obviously I worked with him in the past at Manchester United and I know he's a great coach and a great manager. He said that he wanted to bring me in and I was really grateful for that and glad to be here, Keane told Sky Sports News HQ.

Keane came up through the Manchester United academy and has made a pair of appearances for the senior side, as well as spending time on loan at Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End. He admitted that following a conversation with Jose Mourinho he was looking for a move away.

Hull City's new striker Will Keane says caretaker manager Mike Phelan played a big role in persuading him to move from Manchester United

"I was kind of being realistic with myself and I knew with some of the lads coming in that I might not have got the game time that I wanted, so he [Mourinho] said to me, if the right opportunity came about to take it and luckily for me that's here.

"I'm really excited and you can see there's a great atmosphere here and the spirits really high. They've had a great start and want to build on that and I'm happy to be a part of that."

In a twist of fate, Keane's debut could come against Burnley at Turf Moor on September 10, where twin brother Michael Keane currently plays.

"It's a bit of a strange coincidence that it's the first game. I'm sure we'll have a bit of a joke beforehand but once the game starts we'll both be doing everything we can to help our teams.

"Last year we played against each other and I came off the better so hopefully I can do that again! Let the competition start now."

Keane has been capped by England at U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 level.
