Chris Martin admits he was relieved to complete his season-long loan move to Fulham ahead of Scotland's opening World Cup qualifier this weekend.

The 27-year-old striker sealed the switch from Derby on deadline day and will meet his new team-mates when he returns from international duty as Scotland travel to face Malta on Sunday night.

He also said he is keen to work under Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic and is eyeing a promotion push at Craven Cottage.

"I'm just delighted to get it out of the way. Obviously it was a very late night last night but I'm glad that everything got sorted and it's time to concentrate on the game on Sunday," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

"I think it is a fresh start and I am really looking forward to it at a very progressive club in Fulham, I think they have made some excellent signings in this window and they have a manager with aspirations to get back to the Premier League so hopefully I am able to contribute and help them do that.

"You can never say it wasn't [a distraction] because it was in the pipeline for a little while. I'm just glad to get it out the way, it is not the easiest thing not knowing your future and having that little bit of uncertainty.

"But now that it's done, I can obviously concentrate on the game on Sunday and then meet the lads when I get back."
