Charlie Adam says he fouled Valon Behrami in Stoke's decisive goal at Watford

Charlie Adam admits he unfairly "pushed" Valon Behrami out the way in the lead up to Stoke's winning goal over Watford.

The Potters midfielder met Xherdan Shaqiri's corner with a header only to see it rebound off the post and again off Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes into the net, giving Stoke the only goal of the game at Vicarage Road on Sunday.

Adam jokingly tried to claim the goal as his own, despite being awarded as a Gomes own-goal, but admits it should not have stood due to his foul on Behrami.

Asked if he was disappointed the goal went down as Gomes', Adam said: "Why? It was a goal.

"It was a foul really, I think I pushed him.

"But we'll take it. It's a great win and we'll go onto the Christmas period."

Although the scoreline suggested the game was a close affair, Stoke dominated much of the play and Adam believes the manner of the performance outshone the scoreline.

"I thought we were excellent after last week's disappointment," he said.

"It is a tough place to come away from home, we nicked it 1-0 and I thought we played really well."

Stoke moved just two points behind Watford with the win, with Walter Mazzarri's side missing out on the chance to move into the Premier League's top six.
