Tottenham left-back Danny Rose will see a specialist on Monday after twisting his knee in the midweek draw at Sunderland.
Rose was taken off during the first half at the Stadium of Light and underwent a scan on Thursday that has revealed the need for further assessment before a proper diagnosis can be taken.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino said there is more positive news regarding Jan Vertonghen, who has missed the last three games with ankle ligament damage, and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after illness, however.
"Danny had a scan on Thursday and now we need to wait until Monday to get the verdict of the specialist," Pochettino said.
"Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Kieran Trippier are still out but Jan Vertonghen is better and starting to run which is very positive.
"Hugo trained yesterday and today and will be available. Erik Lamela's progression is good. Day by day he's getting there. It's important to be cautious but positive."
Rose' and Vertonghen's absences means Pochettino has less options in defence but he has insisted he still has the versatility to play a back-three or back-four.
He said: "We have different players that can cope with the positions or different formations. We have Kevin Wimmer or Ben Davies with (Eric) Dier, (Kyle) Walker and Toby (Alderweireld) and maybe we can play with a back four.
"I think we have different options but for me the formation is not important in the end, it's important how we develop our philosophy on the pitch."
