Djibril Cisse has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35.
The much-travelled former Liverpool and France striker previously called time on his career in October 2015 due to a debilitating hip injury but underwent surgery last year and hoped to pull on his boots again.
Cisse had been working on his fitness with first club Auxerre in a bid to earn a contract in France, but after failing to attract any suitors, has called an end to his 17-year career.
"I have loved being a footballer," Cisse told Yahoo Sport. "Up until now, the ball was my whole life. I would have liked to have continued my career, which was interrupted in spite of me, but I have to admit today that football is finished.
"I'm going to give myself body and soul to my career as a DJ, a producer, and as a pundit, as well as develop my line of clothing."
Cisse came through the youth ranks at Auxerre before moving to Liverpool in 2004 where he made 79 appearances, winning the Champions League in his first season and the FA Cup in 2006.
He returned to Ligue 1 with Marseille after three years on Merseyside before returning to the UK on a loan deal with Sunderland in 2008.
The 41-cap forward, who played in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, had spells with Panathinaikos, Lazio, QPR, Russian outfit Kuban Krasnodar and Bastia before playing his final competitive game with JS Saint-Pierroise in 2015.
