Patrick Roberts has chosen not to represent England at the U20s World Cup and will instead stay with Celtic until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old attacker, on loan at the Scottish champions from Manchester City, has been capped nine times for Paul Simpson's national youth side.
But Roberts has decided to remain with Celtic for their remaining league games and the forthcoming Scottish Cup final instead of representing his country at the tournament in South Korea, which begins on May 20.
Roberts said: "I spoke to the gaffer (Brendan Rodgers) and this is just something I really wanted to do.
"I have a great relationship with everyone around the England squad and I wish all the other lads and the management and backroom team the very best for the World Cup in South Korea.
"I have enjoyed my time with Celtic immensely, and from day one at the club it has felt like home. It is a special place and it has been a privilege to be part of the success we have enjoyed.
"We have had a brilliant season so far and in such a special year for the club I want to be part of everything here. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and now I will focus on continuing to do all I can for Celtic."
Celtic, who won their sixth successive Scottish title and 48th overall last month, have four league games remaining against St Johnstone, Aberdeen, Partick Thistle and Hearts, before the Scottish Cup final against the Dons on May 27.
