Bury have snapped up Jermaine Beckford on a Bosman free transfer following his release by Preston North End.
The 33-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal with the Sky Bet League One club and becomes manager Lee Clarke's first summer signing.
Beckford was released by Championship Preston after making just four league starts last season, scoring once.
And Clarke has moved to allay fans' fears that his arrival might signal the departure of star forward James Vaughan, who previously played with Beckford at Huddersfield.
Clarke said: "He's not, we have brought Jermaine to Bury so he can play alongside James. They have played alongside each other before and I want them to rekindle that partnership in a Bury shirt."
Beckford said: "I'm just so excited about being given the chance to play football and the vision that has been shown to me by the manager and the chairman just blew my mind."
The forward made his name at non-league Wealdstone FC before being signed by Leeds United in 2006, where he scored 71 goals in over 100 Championship appearances during a successful four-year spell.
He allowed his contract to run down and joined Everton on a free transfer, going on to score eight times in the Premier League in his only season at Goodison Park.
Beckford returned to the Championship with Leicester in £3m deal in 2011 where he scored nine league goals before a loan spell at Huddersfield, where he starred alongside Vaughan, who signed for Bury last summer.
