Wayne Rooney says he is expecting an emotional day when he returns to play Manchester United at Old Trafford with Everton but still hopes he can score the winning goal.
The 31-year-old re-signed with his boyhood club at the weekend after a 13-year spell at United where he won five Premier League titles, three League Cups, the FA Cup, Europa League and a Champions League, as well as becoming the club's leading goalscorer last season.
Rooney will return to Old Trafford to face his former club with his new team-mates for the first time on September 17, live on Sky Sports, and while he will aim to control his emotions, he says it would be nice to score the goal that wins Everton the three points.
"I always tried to keep it in when I came back to play against Everton for Manchester United," he told Sky Sports News HQ.
"I always tried to leave the emotion to one side because it's hard enough playing when you are focusing on the game, so to have other things going on in your head would only make it more difficult to perform.
"Of course, I'll see a few old friends at the club again that day and hopefully I can upset them and try get the winning goal!"
