Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths says their Champions League play-off tie against Astana will define their season

Leigh Griffiths says Celtic's Champions League play-off tie against Astana will make or break their season.

The Scottish champions face the Kazakh side at home in the first leg of the play-off on Wednesday at Celtic Park.

Last year Griffiths scored twice against Astana as they went through 3-2 on aggregate to reach the group stages with six glamour games against Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Both teams play again at the same stage and Griffiths is in no doubt how big the tie is.

He said: "It makes or breaks our season if we get to the Champions League."

"Just having Champions League football back at Celtic Park after a disappointing two years previously it was massive for everybody involved."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers spoke about the importance of Champions League qualification which comes with a potential £30m windfall.

"If you think too much of the consequence you may not sleep," Rodgers said.

"But the only way you can get through it is by staying really focused, staying in the present and on what you have to do."
