Should West Brom's Ben Foster have been sent off against West Ham? Watch the incident

Was Ben Foster fortunate to escape a red card as he came flying out of his goal to upend West Ham's Javier Hernandez at The Hawthorns?

With the game locked in stalemate, eventually ending in a drab 0-0, the main talking point came midway through the second half as West Brom goalkeeper Foster managed to avoid being sent off for a lunging tackle on Hernandez.

The long ball over the top was there to be won, but Hernandez nicked the ball away from the advancing England international before being upended. The Hammers bench was incensed as referee Paul Tierney brandished yellow instead of read.

Foster, however, does have an unlikely ally in West Ham boss Slaven Bilic who feels, with the benefit of hindsight, the referee got the decision correct.

"For me, in the game, it looked like Foster was the last man," Bilic told Sky Sports. "But after we have looked and the referee made a good decision, it was a yellow as he was not last man.

"It wasn't that brutal. Of course sometimes that would be a red, but I can't see the referee has done too much wrong in that situation."
