Sampdoria claimed a notable scalp in the Coppa Italia as they knocked out Palermo.
Sampdoria claimed a notable scalp in the Coppa Italia as they won 3-2 in Sicily register a 4-2 aggregate victory to book their place in the last eight.
After winning 1-0 in the first leg in Genova, Palermo appeared to be favourites - but it was not to be.
Samp were 3-0 up just before the hour mark as goals from Francesco Flachi (pictured -13 & 54) and Cristian Zenoni set them on their way.
Roberto Guana gave Palermo some hope on 64 minutes, but they could only muster one more effort from Franco Brienza.
They failed to take advantage of an extra man for the final 17 minutes as Giulio Falcone was sent off.
Chievo Verona moved into the quarter finals after drawing 1-1 with Reggina.
The first leg ended 3-3 in Reggina, so that meant the scoreline on Thursday was enough for Chievo.
Simone Tribocchi had given Chievo the lead on ten minutes, but Reggina levelled with four minutes left through Antonio Giosa.
