Italy drop four from squad

Roberto Donadoni has axed four players from his Italy squad for the game with Scotland.

Roberto Donadoni has dropped four players from his Italy squad for next week's Euro 2008 qualifier with Scotland.

Marco Amelia, Manuel Pasqual, Daniele Bonera and Franco Semioli have all been released from the preliminary party for next Wednesday's match in Bari.

The exit of Livorno keeper Amelia (pictured) leaves Christian Abbiati providing the back-up to Gianluigi Buffon for the qualifier.

Milan defender Bonera and Fiorentina stopper Pasqual have been deemed surplus to requirements, whilst the strength in midfield means there is no place for Chievo's Semioli.

Donadoni now has a squad of 21 players at his disposal and has given his troops Friday and Saturday off having worked with them since Tuesday.

World Cup winners Italy are currently third in Group B behind Scotland and France after picking up seven points from four games.

Revised Italy squad: Buffon (Juventus), Abbiati (Torino); Tonetto (Roma), Oddo (Milan), Zambrotta (Barcelona), Barzagli (Palermo), Materazzi (Internazionale), Cannavaro (Real Madrid); Mauri (Lazio), Ambrosini, Gattuso, Pirlo (Milan), Perrotta, De Rossi (Roma), Camoranesi (Juventus); Quagliarella (Sampdoria), Rocchi (Lazio), Toni (Fiorentina), Gilardino (Milan), Del Piero (Juventus), Di Natale (Udinese).
