Striker ready to live up to reputation at Home Park

New Plymouth Argyle striker Emile Mpenza admits he is under pressure to live up to his 'star' billing at Home Park. Mpenza joined the Pilgrims on a free transfer on deadline day after being released by Manchester City over the summer. The 30-year-old Belgium international, who signed a one-year contract with Championship outfit Plymouth, has been plagued by knee injuries during his time in England. But Mpenza is confident his fitness problems are now behind him and he recognises he needs to produce the goods to satisfy Plymouth supporters.

Atmosphere

"I'm under pressure but I'm not scared. Now England will see the real Emile Mpenza," he told Nieuwsblad. "The people really believe in me. They regard me as a star." Mpenza, who first joined City in 2007, also insists that it was his first choice to stay in England after leaving Eastlands. "I absolutely wanted to remain in England," Mpenza added. "There are always a lot of people at the games and the atmosphere in the stadiums is impressive. "Football was born in England and even in the second division (the Championship) the standard is a high level."
