Cheltenham are hoping to sign Tom Denton on loan, but may not be able to afford Michael Pook.
But Allen fears Pook may not link up with club
Cheltenham Town boss Martin Allen has confirmed he is looking to sign Tom Denton on loan, but fears Michael Pook's wages could scupper a deal for the midfielder.
Huddersfield Town have given Denton permission to train with the Robins with a view to joining the League Two side on a six-month loan.
Denton started Tuesday's 0-0 friendly draw with Southampton and Allen suggested he will push through a deal for the striker, who has yet to make his debut for Huddersfield.
"Tom Denton won 10 out of his 11 headers; his set-up play was good; he has some work to do on getting into goalscoring positions in the box, but it's a six-month loan and Huddersfield are doing me a favour in sending him here to get some games," Allen told the club's
official website.
"He scored for Huddersfield on Saturday and got two in five games for Woking at the end of last season. We are short of numbers and need more players in case we get injuries like we did last year."

Pook also featured against the Saints after a recent trial at Crewe Alexandra, but Allen is pessimistic about the prospects of signing the former Swindon Town man.
He added: "Michael Pook is a good player. He can pass the ball and is a good athlete.
"He would be a good one to get, but I'm not sure if we can afford his wages. Having said that, he doesn't have a club at the moment and he's been a good professional at the training ground.
"Michael has enjoyed it here and he would be an asset to us, but finances dictate and we know from last season that we have to get that side of it right."
Allen is also taking a look at former Chelsea youngster Jordan Tabor, commenting: "Jordan Tabor has been at Chelsea for a few years and was released at the end of last season.
"He lives in Oxford and is willing to come here and play for a while for nothing. We have no cover at left-back, so it could be a good one for us."
