Goalkeeper signs two-year Swindon extension

Goalkeeper Phil Smith has put pen-to-paper on a new two-year contract extension with Swindon Town. The 29-year-old has found himself behind David Lucas in the pecking order at the County Ground this season but manager Danny Wilson has signalled his desire to keep hold of the shot-stopper. Smith's current deal was set to expire in the summer but he is now contracted to remain with the Robins until the end of the 2011/2012 campaign. The goalkeeper told the club's official website: "I had to think about it for a while because obviously I haven't played a lot, but I won't have a better chance of playing in the Championship than I will here. "The club has progressed massively in the last couple of years and I want to be a part of it. "Swindon have shown their faith in me and they've made me feel wanted which was the big thing and made it easy for me in the end."
