Defender opts for move to Chesterfield ahead of other clubs

Chesterfield have snapped up defender Simon Ford on a two-year contract from SPL outfit Kilmarnock. Ford, who made 163 appearances during his time at Kilmarnock, was out of contract at Rugby Park and has opted for a return to English football. The former Grimsby Town stopper was attracting interest from several clubs, with the likes of Carlisle United, Dundee and St Johnstone all understood to be keen. However, Ford has accepted a contract until 2012 with Chesterfield and is excited by the prospect of playing in the League Two club's new stadium. He told the club's official website: "Although I had some options I am delighted to be joining Chesterfield and am really looking forward to kicking off the season at what is a fabulous new stadium."
