Brighton goalkeeper will miss start of new season

Brighton goalkeeper Peter Brezovan has suffered a broken wrist and will miss the start of the new League One season. Brezovan has had a scan and is expected to be out for between four to six weeks and he will definitely play no part in the opening day clash at former club Swindon. Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has urged fellow goalkeepers Michael Poke and Mitch Walker to stake their claims for the No.1 jersey and prove he does not need to enter the transfer market to sign someone on loan as back-up.

Chance

Poyet told the club's official website: "Peter has a wrist injury which could see him sidelined for a month, so Michael and Mitch have the next few games to stake their claim to begin the season at Swindon. "Understandably Peter began pre-season as first choice after his excellent end to last season and due to his experience. "However, he won't be fit, and that presents a chance for one of the other two goalkeepers to seize the shirt for themselves and prove they are ready to play regular football in League One. "That opportunity has perhaps come sooner than any of us anticipated, but it's up to Michael and Mitch to take their chance and show me they are ready to begin the season on August 7."
