Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has promised to reach new highs this season and wants to stay with the Bundesliga champions for the rest of his playing career.
On Tuesday the French Football Association banned the wide-man for three matches with the national team as part of the fallout from their World Cup debacle.
Having struggled with a groin injury on the field, Ribery has also experienced much-publicised difficulties in his private life this year and he is understandably keen to move on from several months of trauma.
The 27-year-old told
SPORT1 television ahead of Bayern's first game of the new league season against Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg on Friday: "Last season was extremely sad for me, my family and all the people concerned.
"This season I am planning to be fit for 100 per cent and go through every single game. I am going to have a great season.
"For me, for the supporters, for the club and for my family, I have worked hard after my injury and did well in training."
Transfer
Ribery turned down interest from Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid to sign a new contract with Bayern in May and he hopes to stay with the Bundesliga champions for the rest of his playing career.
"Bayern Munich is big club with important people and great servants," he said. "It is like a family and that is important. I could imagine playing on at the club until my retirement."
Contrastingly, Argentinian midfielder Jose Ernesto Sosa has admitted that he is ready to move away from Bayern after just returning from a spell on loan at former club Estudiantes.
He told
Kicker: "It is a fact that I am ready to agree to a transfer, I am 100 per cent prepared for that scenario.
"If I do, then I am going over to a club in Italy or Spain."
Bayern have yet to receive any bids for Sosa, 25, but Serie A side Napoli have confirmed that he is their top transfer target.
Napoli director Riccardo Bigon told
Radio Marta: "We are somewhat keen on Sosa. He is on top of our list. We still need to decide if we are going to sign a player of his strength."
