Bundesliga outfit have the option to make loan move permanent

Mainz have re-signed two-time Germany international Malik Fathi on loan from Russian outfit Spartak Moscow and they have the option to make the deal permanent. The 26-year-old full-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Bruchwegstadion and impressed in the Bundesliga. Mainz therefore attempted to bring Fathi back to Germany on transfer deadline day, but it appeared that a deal was not completed before the cut-off point. However, Mainz general manager Christian Heidel has confirmed that the neccesary paperwork was received for a loan with just minutes to spare before the deadline. Heidel told Rhein Zeitung newspaper: "Six minutes prior to the end of the transfer window, this move seemed to collapse as Moscow had not confirmed terms. "Three minutes later we received the confirmation of Spartak Moscow via fax. "It took us some time to persuade Spartak Moscow to agree to this as we told them straight away that we could not come up with the transfer fee they were looking for. "We are delighted to have Malik Fathi back at our club."
