Germany international relishing chance at Novakovic's expense

Germany international Lukas Podolski has told Cologne that he wants to play as a striker on a regular basis. The former Bayern Munich player has generally been forced to operate in an attacking midfield role since returning to Cologne in the summer of 2009. But Podolski has grown frustrated at being played out of position and has had a taste for a lone-striking task in the recent absence of Milivoje Novakovic. Slovenia international Novakovic has been dropped and Podolski has told manager Zvonimir Soldo that he wants the tactical reshuffle to continue. Podolski, who scored Germany's second goal in a 4-1 win against England at this summer's World Cup, said in Deutsche Presseagentur: "Playing in the centre of attack is a role I like to play. It is a role I am used to and this role fits my style of play. "I am going to play on in that role. It will be consistent from now."
