Midfielder accepts it may be time for a fresh start

Jean Makoun admits he is open to the prospect of leaving Lyon in the January transfer window. The Cameroon international has endured an up and down 2010/11 campaign, experiencing peaks and troughs aplenty. Having struggled to hold down a regular first-team place and maintain any kind of consistency, he admits the time may have come for a fresh start. A number of clubs are reported to be monitoring his situation, with Aston Villa among them, and Makoun has refused to close that particular door. "The winter market? There are clubs interested," he told L'Equipe.

Complicated

"Lyon opened the door and haven't ruled out a sale. I hope they haven't changed their mind. "I know I am on the fringes of the side, with Yoann Gourcuff and Jeremy Toulalan almost fit again. "I play, then I don't play. It is frustrating. I have always played and I want to carry on playing. "I could do that at Lyon or maybe somewhere else. It is a complicated situation at the moment."
No deal
Meanwhile, Lyon coach Claude Puel has played down rumours suggesting 19-year-old striker Alexandre Lacazette could be loaned to Nice. "He will stay with us, just like the other young players who have joined the senior squad," he said. "We hope to play a lot of matches before the end of the season so we will need everybody. "We will take stock of the group as it stands, including those who are not playing at present. "Reinforcements are unlikely as I am happy with those already at my disposal."
