Uncertain future for Fiorentina midfielder

The agent of Fiorentina midfielder Mario Santana has invited the club to make his client a new contract offer. Santana's current deal expires at the end of the season and reports have suggested he could move elsewhere. He is thought to have attracted interest and Santana's representative, Marco Piccioli, would like the subject of the player's future resolved. Piccioli says there are a number of factors to consider and is keeping his options open at the moment, but admits the 29-year-old would prefer to stay at Fiorentina. "At this moment there is nothing new and there is no meeting set up with Fiorentina," Piccioli told La Repubblica. "We look forward to understanding Fiorentina's intentions, then we will evaluate. "If Fiorentina make an offer then Santana will also assess the technical project, because he wants the team to be competitive and certain things, like if Alberto Gilardino or Riccardo Montolivo left, might worry him. "I don't think it's an economic question, because if he really wanted go he could walk away and would be able to help many big Italian and European clubs. "Mario acknowledges that Fiorentina have helped him in the period of his two major injuries, he is happy in Florence and for this reason his desire would be to remain here. "But if Fiorentina aren't interested he will not remain without a team because I have on the table offers from other important teams."

Bolatti could leave

Fiorentina were fairly quiet in the January transfer window but sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has defended the club's decisions. "In January we were only aiming to remedy situations that have arisen during the season such as the injury of (Sebastien) Frey, so we took Neto," he told Radio Blu. "We took (Valon) Behrami in the midfield because we had some other injury problems in this position." Fiorentina could still do some business this winter by allowing Argentine midfielder Mario Bolatti to join Brazilian club Internacional. Corvino explained: "He's a player who is highly regarded in South America by a great club. There, the market is still open." Internacional coach Celso Roth is hopeful a deal can be agreed, saying: "The negotiations for Bolatti are going well and things are looking good for both Internacional and the player."
