Doncaster midfielder Martin Woods is out for the rest of the season with hip and groin problems.
Woods had struggled with injuries throughout the campaign but Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll had hoped to have him back in action soon.
Instead the 25-year-old will have an operation that will leave him on the sidelines for a couple of months.
"It effectively rules him out for the rest of the campaign and that's very disappointing for Martin and the club," O'Driscoll told the
Doncaster Free Press.
"He's been pushing for a return but kept breaking down just when he was looking great and really fit in training."
Hayter hopeful
Meanwhile, striker James Hayter is confident he will be fit for the remaining games of the season after an injection in his ankle.
Hayter has bagged 10 goals despite missing two lengthy spells this term through injury and believes he will be able to feature in Rovers' final eight fixtures.
The former Bournemouth forward revealed that a previous calf concern had caused problems in his ankle but that the treatment he received during the international break should have cleared up the injury.
He said: "I had to have an injection into my ankle, which stemmed from my previous problem.
"I managed to get through the last few games since I came back but I needed an injection which needed to be rested for a few days afterwards.
"It's nothing serious and not anything that needs to be sorted in the summer, just a slight impingement in my ankle following my calf injury.
"The break has given me the chance to have the injection and I've been able to spend this week training and get ready for the weekend's game against Bristol."
