Hartlepool duo Neil Austin and Andy Monkhouse have been handed new contracts to remain at Victoria Park next season.

Full-back Austin joined from Darlington in the summer of 2009 and winger Monkhouse has become a crowd favourite since arriving from Swindon, initially on loan, in November 2006. However, Pools have released 10 players as Mick Wadsworth begins reshaping his squad ahead of next season. Denis Behan, Armann Bjornsson, Joe Gamble, Leon McSweeney and Fabio Yantoro have all been released while fringe players Billy Blackford, Billy Greulich, Michael Mackay, Callum Martin and Dylan Purvis have also left. Yet Pools have taken up the opportunity to exercise the options of keeping Steve Haslam and Colin Larkin, who will stay for another year. Youth team player Paul Johnson has also signed a new contract after impressing Wadsworth, with professional contracts also being offered to youngsters Callum Hassan, Jordan Mellish and Jordan Richards.
