Callum Davidson has expressed his delight at returning to St Johnstone - 13 years after leaving the club for Blackburn Rovers.
The 34-year-old left-back has penned a one-year deal with the McDiarmid Park outfit, but is not looking for an easy ride in the SPL.
The former Preston and Leicester City defender is setting ambitious targets at Saints as he is hoping to qualify for Europe or reach a cup final.
Davidson had possible options to continue his career in England, but he wanted to return to his homeland and settle his family back in Scotland.
"I've wanted to move back to Scotland for two or three years but whatever manager I have had in that time has always said no," he told the club's official website.
"However, it had become clear in recent months that my time at Preston was at an end, Derek McInnes phoned me in the last week of the season and of course I was keen.
"I still have ambitions in the game and see no reason why we can't build on what we have at Saints and get us a place in Europe or to a cup final - they came close last season and I'm excited by the thought that I could be part of a team that takes the club further forward.
"I had a few enquiries from clubs down there but as I said, I was keen to get back to Scotland and get the family settled down in Dunblane.
"I can't deny there is a bit of sentiment involved in my decision to come back to Saints - at the end of the day it is where I started my career and I always look for their results but it is sentiment coupled with ambition and a belief that I can still achieve things in the game."
