Striker's agent claims Magath wanted to sell in the summer

Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath wanted to sell Patrick Helmes to St Etienne this summer, according to the striker's agent. It is claimed the 13-time Germany international was ordered to meet with representatives of the French club and undergo a medical. Helmes' representative, Gerd vom Bruch, insists his client refused the move and has been left 'flabbergasted' by the actions of Magath. Vom Bruch told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper: "Felix Magath told Patrick on 30th August he would be a surplus to his requirements at Wolfsburg. "Two to three hours later, Mr. Magath ordered Patrick to visit a hotel near Wolfsburg to meet representatives of St Etienne.

Flabbergasted

"Patrick was to directly drive over to St Etienne to have a medical and then sign a contract with the club. "Patrick was flabbergasted and taken by total surprise." Meanwhile, goalkeeper Diego Benaglio has played down suggestions a drop in his form has been due to problems in his personal life. The Switzerland international told BLICK: "I have been told that people in Wolfsburg are whispering behind my back that my wife and I have split up. "Fortunately, I can just laugh about this."
