Sergio Canales wants to make his loan spell at Valencia into a permanent move in the summer rather than return to Real Madrid after bouncing back from a long-term injury.
The 21-year-old midfielder saw his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer turn sour with few first-team chances and he chose to move in order to play regularly.
Instead, Canales suffered a knee ligament injury in October and has only just returned to action, and now wants to remain at Valencia to show what he can do.
"We have to finish the season first and then see. I am really happy here and would like to thank the club and the supporters," the former Racing Santander starlet told reporters.
"They have made me feel at home and if it were up to me then I would stay here next season.
"But for now what is important is to take each day as it comes and to enjoy myself. I am not going to keep looking too far ahead.
"If Valencia buys me then there would be no problem. It would be perfect for me."
After signing a contract with Madrid in February 2010, Canales was expected to become a star under Jose Mourinho, but instead made only ten appearances.
Now he is enjoying life at Valencia and was stunned when making his comeback against Rayo to receive such a warm reception from the club's fans.
"The ovation and applause they gave me was spectacular," Canales continued. "I am really grateful and I had goosebumps because I was just not expecting that."
