Prosser to stay at Shrimpers

Luke Prosser will remain at Southend after the League Two club activated a 12-month extension clause in his contract.

The defender was due to become a free agent later this month but will now stay at Roots Hall next season as the Shrimpers look to build on a campaign in which they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion before falling in the play-off semi-finals. "We had the option of giving Luke another year and that's something the management have decided to do," said a club spokesman. "Luke is someone who can play in a couple of positions at the back and the management like his attitude and professionalism as well. "He's someone who has really improved in the last couple of seasons and we look forward to welcoming him back next year."
