Hamburg have ended their pursuit of David Angel Abraham after the Getafe defender turned down a move to the Bundesliga giants.
The Argentine only signed for Getafe earlier this summer after leaving FC Basel on a bosman, but Hamburg boss Thorsten Fink had hoped to convince the Spanish side to sell.
However, having agreed a four-year deal in May, Abraham has reiterated his desire to honour his new contract in favour of linking up with his old Basel boss at Hamburg.
"I have had an offer from Hamburger SV," he told Spanish press.
"Thorsten Fink, who has been manager of my recent club FC Basel, had tempted me to move to Germany.
"Thorsten did his very best. Still, my biggest desire has always been playing in the La Liga competition. I am with Getafe, I will feel at home at Getafe."
Jarolim exit
Meanwhile, Hamburg look set to lose club veteran David Jarolim, with the 33-year-old admitting he is likely to leave the club now that his contract has expired.
The Czech midfielder has had no shortage of offers this summer but is biding his time before deciding his next move, although France appears to be his preferred destination.
He told Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper: "As things stand it is not likely that I will remain in Germany. I have received enquiries from some German clubs and it would be quite interesting, of course.
"But I am speaking the French language and I am in touch with clubs from Ligue 1. This is no secret at all. I would feel keen on playing football in Ligue 1.
"I have the desire to play two more years in a very good competition."
