McGhee backs Clarkson to shine

Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee feels striker David Clarkson "wants to be loved" at the club following his goal on Saturday.

The Scotsman netted his first goal for the club in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Aldershot and has been ever-present in the side so far this season. Clarkson, 27, signed for the club following his release from cross-city rivals Bristol City in the summer. But McGhee thinks he will grow in confidence after an inconsistent couple of seasons in front of goal. "It was a statement from him. He's a Bristol Rovers player and wants to be loved," he told BBC Radio Bristol. "He has been excellent and I thought he was excellent again on Saturday. I thought it was a terrific goal and I think he'll get many more for us."
