Kenneth eyes first-team return

Bristol Rovers defender Garry Kenneth accepts he has a fight on his hands to get back in the side.

The 26-year-old, sidelined since sustaining a serious knee injury in January, will return to the first-team squad for the trip to Newport on Saturday if he comes through a midweek reserve game unscathed. Mark McChrystal and captain Tom Parkes have been regulars in central defence in Kenneth's absence. "It will be a tough fight to get back in the team," he told the Bristol Evening Post. "But it is a challenge I am looking forward to after being unable to play for so long because of injury. "There is a lot more competition for those places at the heart of defence at the moment, but it can only be a good thing for the club to have so many able defenders about the place. "It has been a long road, but I've worked hard over the summer to get myself back in contention and I can't wait to get going again."
