Mourinho has returned to Stamford Bridge for a second spell and is determined to repeat the success he enjoyed first time around - when he landed two Premier League titles and five major trophies.
Ivanovic is convinced that the Portuguese tactician is the right man to oversee another era of domination in west London.
He expects Chelsea to go from strength to strength under their demanding boss and feels they now have the squad depth to compete for top honours at home and abroad - as opposed to recent years in which European success has helped to compensate for domestic struggles.
Ivanovic said in the Daily Star: "There are a lot of players fighting for places, but the season is so long.
"When you miss some players through injury, we won't have a problem filling that space.
"Every one of our players will get the chance and you have to be ready mentally and physically for this long season ahead.
"It's important to have some games to recover and be ready for the next one. The manager knows what he wants and what kind of players we need.
"We are improving as a team.
"It's been a good start. The beginning of the season is very important for us as a team.
"Mourinho is a perfectionist on all the details in the game and you have to be ready for that."
