Newport midfielder Robbie Willmott revealed his new deal came totally out of the blue.

The former Cambridge player signed a new contract with the Exiles on Friday night and celebrated with a goal in their 3-3 draw at Accrington the following day. The versatile Willmott has become a key player for Justin Edinburgh's side, featuring in 31 of their 33 games in all competitions, and revealed he was delighted to accept the club's offer of a fresh deal. "I was buzzing, the gaffer called me in and said I had done really well and they wanted to reward me," he told the South Wales Argus. "It took a bit of time, as all deals do, but I was delighted to sign it the night before the Accrington game. "It's been a great move for me, coming here from Cambridge and I'm really happy to commit my future to the club. "It is probably the best way to celebrate signing a new deal, scoring a goal, even if it was a fortunate one because somebody bottled it in the wall. "I don't mind, as long as they go in and I'm delighted to celebrate a new deal."
