Arsenal and Manchester City have been keeping tabs on Brighton youngster Christian Walton, according to the goalkeeper's father.

The 18-year-old, who was Albion’s third-choice stopper last season, is an England Under-19s international and was part of the side that recently just missed out on qualification for the European Championships.

Walton progressed through the youth set-up at Plymouth Argyle before making the switch to the Amex Stadium last year, despite a host of top-flight clubs reported to have been chasing his signature.

Walton is yet to make his first-team debut for manager-less Brighton, but Tomasz Kuszczak’s summer exit means that he is likely to become a more prominent part of the squad in the new campaign.

The goalkeeper has another two years remaining on his current deal but his dad, Tim, says that his performances on the international stage have alerted others.

"A number of clubs have been watching Christian. Arsenal are one and we know Man City are keen,” he told the Cornish Guardian.

"He did extremely well in his three games for England, which has attracted some interest from clubs."
