Kearns impressed by ambition

Danny Kearns has revealed Carlisle's ambition to return to League One at the first time of asking was the reason he turned down other offers.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who signed for the club last week on a two-year deal following his release by Peterborough, knows what it takes to get out of the fourth tier having won the Sky Bet League Two title while on loan at Chesterfield last season. Kearns also played a role in Rotherham's promotion the previous campaign and he is determined to make it a hat-trick with Carlisle. "I've had interest and offers from elsewhere over the last two or three weeks but this one came up and I jumped at it," he told the club's official website. "I think it was the ambition that you can see around the place that really swung it. The club is trying to play for something this season, in terms of getting back up into League One, and that's really exciting. "I didn't want to just go somewhere where it's going to be mid-table or lower half. I want to be at a place where there's a desire to push on and hopefully I'll play regularly and do my bit in helping us to get promoted. "I've been involved in the crunch games, when you have to win to stay involved, and I know the atmosphere and expectancy that comes with all of that. It would be great to make it three in a row this time around."
