Jack Colback insists Newcastle United's summer transfer business has highlighted why he was right to make the move to St James' Park this summer.

The former Sunderland midfielder opted to cross the Tyne-Wear divide when signing for Newcastle on a Bosman free transfer.

Colback is one of six new faces to have arrived at Newcastle and he is delighted with the players to have been brought in by Alan Pardew.

“Before I joined he was telling me about the type of players he wanted and he has practised what he preached," the 24-year-old told The Sun.

“He has brought in some quality players to add to the quality that was already in the squad. De Jong in particular has looked really high quality in training. His finishing has been brilliant and he looks a class act.

“I’m sure the Newcastle fans can’t wait to see him and the rest of the new signings come the new season.”

And Colback insists that playing for Newcastle means he is on a higher level than that of Sunderland.

“It’s important in every player’s career to play at as high a level as they can — and at Newcastle I’ve got a chance to be part of a team really looking to go places," he said.

“If you ask the manager himself, he’ll tell you he is looking to really go for it this season and trying to push Newcastle to where we should be, which is high up the table."
