Scunthorpe have signed defender Miguel Llera on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.

The Spanish centre-back was a free agent after leaving Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season. He joins the Iron after impressing as a trialist in a 1-0 pre-season win over Huddersfield at Glanford Park last week. The 34-year-old played 25 times for Wednesday last season and has over 180 professional appearances to his name since arriving in England, where he has played for MK Dons, Charlton, Blackpool, Brentford and Sheffield Wednesday. He was on trial with League One rivals Oldham earlier in pre-season and joins recent addition Miles Addison, Niall Canavan, Andrew Boyce and Luke Waterfall in battling for a spot in central defence, with David Mirfin set to miss the start of the campaign after undergoing an operation on his knee ligaments.
