Gill named Tranmere assistant

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Matt Gill has been appointed player-assistant manager at Prenton Park.

Rob Edwards has elected to make the vastly-experienced 33-year-old his right-hand man after bringing him to Prenton Park over the summer, initially as a player-coach. Gill has made more than 500 appearances during his career, two of which have come with Rovers this season, and he will remain available to Edwards as a player. "I'm delighted to have Matt working alongside me," Edwards told the club's official website. "He fits in really well with our coaching staff and has given me some great input since he has been here. "He's got a fantastic will to win and I know he'll be doing everything he can to pass that on to the players. "He will also remain a very important part of our playing squad and his experience and enthusiasm will be vital in our changing room."
