Scott Sinclair's loan deal to Aston Villa moved a step closer after the Manchester City winger completed a medical ahead of talks over personal terms, according to Sky sources.

Sinclair joined City from Swansea in 2012 but has made just 12 starts and 19 appearances in that time, and has played only four games this season.

He spent last season on loan at West Brom, where he made 11 appearances.

City would let Sinclair leave permanently for an asking price of around £3.5m, but that cost proved a stumbling block for Villa, and now Sinclair is most likely to move to Villa Park on loan until the end of the season, with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer.

Villa manager Paul Lambert had originally scuppered talks of signing Sinclair, but the on-off negotiations over the 25-year-old’s signature could conclude before Villa’s match against Arsenal on Sunday, ahead of the transfer window closing on Monday.

Lambert, who is engaged in a relegation battle, has already signed Carles Gil from Valencia for £3.25m.
