Callum Wilson says Bournemouth are intent on overcoming their recent slump and going the distance in the promotion race.
The Cherries only lead the Sky Bet Championship table on goal difference after recent defeats against Norwich and Leeds, but they host sixth-placed Watford on Friday knowing they can reopen a three-point gap at the top ahead of Saturday's fixtures.
"A season is a long-term thing," forward Wilson told BBC South Today. "There's no point doing it for half a season and then falling away.
"The club's never been in this position before, I've never been in this position before.
"It's fantastic, it's what we expected and more. Now it's about maintaining it and going the distance."
Despite Wilson netting his 15th goal of the season having stepped off the bench, Bournemouth were knocked out of the FA Cup at Aston Villa on Sunday and the former Coventry man could be amongst a number of recalls to the starting line-up.
Meanwhile, Watford make the trip south hoping Matej Vydra can build on his first goal in 12 games.
The former West Brom striker scored for the first time since November 1 as they saw off Blackpool 7-2 on Saturday and Hornets boss Slavisa Jokanovic hopes it is a sign of better things to come for the 22-year-old.
"It is good for him because now he will stop thinking about goals," he told the Watford Observer. "He will not have an obsession to score a goal.
"Strikers always worry about goals but I worry about them working. If you are working then your goals will arrive."
