Brighton are interested in taking former England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips on loan from QPR, Sky Sports understands.

The 33-year-old has made just one appearance for Harry Redknapp's side this season in a 1-0 Capital One Cup defeat by Burton Albion.

Wright-Phillips, whose last appearance in the top flight was in March 2013, joined QPR on transfer deadline day in August 2011 and has made 70 appearances for the club.

"An enquiry being made and a move going through are obviously two very different things and a long way apart," said Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill.

"He has had the chance to go on loan in the Championship before and turned it down but he is not really part of Harry Redknapp's plans."

Wright-Phillips made his name at Manchester City before a £21m move to Chelsea in 2005. He stayed at Stamford Bridge for three seasons but returned to City for £9m in 2008.
