Sheffield Wednesday striker Will Keane admitted the midweek home defeat to Blackburn was a "missed opportunity".

The Owls were looking to build on two successive wins in a bid to close the gap on the top six, but it was Blackburn who revived their faint play-off hopes after catching the home side cold to go two-up in the first 26 minutes and then hold on to win 2-1.

"Yes it was definitely a missed opportunity after the last two results," said Manchester United loanee Keane, who has scored three goals in nine appearances for Wednesday since arriving in January.

"The team was very confident going into the game, so it's massively disappointing after getting a good win on Saturday."

Stuart Gray's side followed up the recent win at Millwall with last weekend's victory over promotion-chasing Middlesbrough.

"We wanted to carry that on, so it's a big blow but we have to take it on the chin and make sure we learn from it," the boss said.

"We've been playing well in the second half, but that's too late and we need to start that from the first minute and take it to the opposition.

"We started to put Blackburn under pressure, but it was too late and we need to learn from that and on Saturday. We need to make sure we come out of the blocks and start brighter."

Wednesday will bid for back-to-back away league wins on Saturday at bottom club Blackpool.
